What to wear working from home

The world is a strange place at the moment thanks to coronavirus. We're all without fail stuck inside, in our houses (gardens if we're lucky) and only allowed out for 'necessities' or exercise.

A lot of us have been plunged into working from home. For those of us who are self-employed, this is the norm. But for everyone else, who is used to going to an office day in day out, this is a scary New Thing. What with the emergence of Teams and Zoom as the only way to keep in touch with your colleagues and run meetings, working from home is a very real situation.

And with this new normal, the question of what to wear has reared its head. What do you wear when you're at home every day? The temptation is to default into yoga pants and sweatshirts, but remember you are still at work and on video calls some level of professionalism is expected.

It's important to treat working from home no differently as if it was working from an office. A meeting is still a meeting. What would you wear to work? Maybe just wear the top half of that outfit - cameras don't show what's under the desk, and if you want to wear your Captain America pyjama bottoms with your work shirt, that's fine.

Another alternative is to treat every day as if it's casual Friday. Most offices still have rules governing what can be worn on casual Fridays, so why not try keeping to those?

If you've been furloughed, stay strong. This will not last forever. Soon you will be back at work. Soon you will have to start ironing your work shirts again. But in the meantime, enjoy your break and maybe take the time to get your closet in order for when the world reopens, and we can all look forward to returning to some kind of normality.
